Floret

Product Details

Trumpet daffodil, Narcissus ‘Floret’. This exciting, first-time offering will be officially registered in 2024 honoring Floret Flowers, Erin and Chris Benzakein’s powerhouse of cut flower production, plant breeding, education, and publishing. When I first saw this seedling at Oakwood Daffodils, I knew it was special: excellent plant habit, fast bulb increase, excellent stem production, and the most novel coloring of “antique shades” that are rare in daffodils yet so popular among cut flower growers and florists. In 2019 we dubbed the seedling with the field name of “Floret” for easy identification—I had only recently become aware of Floret Flowers (late to the party, I know), and this seedling exemplified the novel coloration Erin has so brilliantly promoted especially among her zinnia and dahlia breeding interests. The befitting name stuck. When Erin approached me last year to supply bulbs, we sent among others a selection of seedlings planned for future release, including ‘Floret’. Turns out, it was Erin’s favorite! From the late Dr. John Reed, its pedigree is [Oregon Pioneer x Reed 93-9-4 (Memento x Magician)], the result of the absolute best of all-American daffodil genetics. Not only is N. ‘Floret’ a superb garden and cut flower cultivar, it also holds tremendous breeding potential for concolorous flowers of amber, orange, copper tones, and pink. I could go on forever how great this cultivar is, but hopefully Erin’s endorsement will suffice.
