The "Bally" series from Ballydorn Bulb Farm include many incredible garden and exhibition flowers, if not all rather similar. Grown side by side it is easy to discern between them, based on stem height, flower size, and season of flowering; for the exhibitors, the latter is of utmost importance to keep the ribbons and medals coming. 'Ballygowan' is a late-flowering member of the series with tall, stiff stems carrying aloft fragrant flowers of white and yellow, with the coronas adorned in a brilliant red filigree. For those who are new to the Ballys but you know of 'Goose Green', it is a likely sibling to many of these, and the growth habits are the same.
